National Onion Producers and Marketers Association of Nigeria, has announced in a briefing over the weekend that the association will be “shutting the supply of onion” this was announced by the President of the association, Aliyu Isah Umar, this is coming as a result of the unrest amongst ethnic groups.
In his words,
“After full delibration by the executives of the National association of onion, and the failure of government to respond to our cry. We have hereby reached the following decision.
1. We are calling on the state and federal government to restore law and order in the state. And we are calling on the good people of the southern part of Nigeria to live with the Hausa community in peace as we are only there for our lawful business.
2. We also call on state government, to collaborate with federal government to setup a committee to investigate the incident that leads to loss of life and properties of the onion association of Nigeria members. “
He further stated that if the government fails to adhere, “We are shutting the supply of onion to the entire South”. During the press briefing he also made it known that this will be effective from Monday, 7th June 2021.
