Reports from #MCZIGLIVESERIES / #MCZLIVESERIES for the month of April, 2021.

Tomi Majanuola joined ÌyanuOlúwa Fágbiyè to discuss if veganism is really an African thing while, Adeola Adeleye joined Daniel Ochuko to discuss the spike in cholesterol level and ways it can be managed.

Tomi Makanjuola is the vegan chef at Vegan Nigerian she spoke on everything vegan.

Some of her thoughts during the conversation:

When you’re vegetarian you don’t consume meat like: chicken, beef, pork, you do consume other animal products such as dairy i.e milk, cheese, butter, eggs. Veganism is sort of like a stricter version of that.
The idea of not eating animal products is not exclusive to the West and which is why I can say that based anecdotal history. There are certain tribes in Nigeria where meat consumption is not like a big thing…

In commemoration of World Health Day, Adeola Adeleye, certified dietitian at Ask D Dietitian was our guest. Some of her thoughts can be seen below:

Your body needs cholesterol to make some fats in the brain. Your sex hormones need cholesterol.
High cholesterol level is one of major cause of heart disease. A high cholesterol level could be the reason for high blood pressure in some people. There are 3 main drivers of high cholesterol
1. Trans fat
2. Saturated fat
3. Refined sugar
Trans fat is one of the most direct causes of high cholesterol.
