MCZ Top Ten Cookbooks from 2020.

2020 saw your favourite chefs and cookbook authors share their wealth of experience in print/text: some as e-book and others hard-copy. There’s a beauty behind seeing your favourite food enthusiast share a part of them in a cookbook either through recipes or through personal experiences put into writing. It is an amazing experience to connect in such an unimaginable way.

Cookbooks have become part of us and will for long be a point of reference to how food lovers incredibly connect, with food and those behind the recipes. These cookbooks come either in prints or via other medium like audio as said earlier the virtual model was widely embraced this season for obvious reasons. In 2020, your favourite like: Tola Akerele, Tiyan Alile, Alexander Adegboye and Abiola Akanji released cookbooks that made it to our Top 10 list of cookbooks in the year 2020.

In no particular order here are some of the cookbooks from 2020:

*Dine Diaspora— EZIBAN COOKBOOK

Eziban cookbook comes as a Digital Booklet published by Dine Diaspora. It is a collection of recipes from food and beverage influencers that featured on Dine Diaspora and Afropunk Bites&Beats show.
The cookbook features recipes from: Zoe Adjonyoh, Kwame Onwuachi, Paola Velez and many more.

* Alexander Adegboye — THE ASSASINATED CUISINE

The culinary entrepreneur, Alexander Adegboye, released a cookbook titled ‘The Assassinated Cuisine’ in commemoration of Nigeria’s 60th Independence anniversary. What many have described to be a “harsh title” Alex, however, writes and illustrated how far we’ve assassinated and murdered our own cuisine. The culinary entrepreneur aim was to challenge Nigerians to embrace their food culture and traditions.

* Abiola Akanji — CHEF STONE TAKES AFRICA.

Chef Stone’s 4th publication took food lovers across the African continent showcasing 30 African cuisines he cooked during the Holy month of Ramadan. Stone’s 30 Iftar Meal Ideas is one food lovers look forward to every other year. It’s an inspiring moment where each recipe idea comes with a shopping list.

The cookbook ‘Chef Stone Takes Africa’ was released for pre-order on Sallah Day. He has also authored great cookbooks like: 1on1 with Chef Stone and 30 Easy Meal Ideas.

* Tiyan Alile — THE HOMESCHOOLED CHEF

Culinary education isn’t for adults alone because overtime we’ve seen kids develop interest in understanding the nitty-gritty of how cooking is done. This would have been the 7th year of Chef Tiyan taking children on summer cooking classes this birth the idea of ‘Homescholed Chef’ to keep the kids engaged during the summer holidays and even afterwards. Tiyan is also the author of TALE IN A PIE

* Tola Akerele — THE ORISHIRISHI COOK

The founder, Bogobiri House, Tola Akerele authored ‘The Orishirishi Cookbook’ (Orishirishi which literally means, ‘varieties’) where selected Nigerian recipes served at Bogobiri were showcased. The cookbook is a comprehensive guide to Nigerian cuisine, infusing the quirks and tips required to prepare some of finest delicacies out of Africa.

* Marcus Samuelsson — THE RISE: BLACK COOKS AND THE SOUL OF AMERICAN FOOD.

Marcus Samuelsson showcased Black excellence in THE RISE cookbook. The book features black people in the culinary space and as well explores extraordinary cuisine and flavors they bring to the world because black food matters as well. The book features: Yewande Komolafe, Tamie Cooks, Osayi Endolyn and Angie Mosier.

* Jessica Douglas–Jombo — BECOMING A GENIUS IN THE KITCHEN

Jessica released her debut cookbook ‘Becoming a genius in the kitchen’ in July, 2020. The e-0book talks on the tips and lessons from Jessica’s cooking journey. In summary, the cookbook highlights Jessica’s journey to becoming a young teenage chef, the mistakes and lessons learnt and the support received from family members.

* Dumebi Agbakoba — DUMEBI’S KITCHEN

Chef Dumebi unveiled the cover of her e-cookbook on July 16th, 2020. Dumebi’s Kitchen cookbook featured delicious food and drink recipes especially for gatherings.

* Zoe Adjonyoh — ZOE’S GHANA KITCHEN

Zoe made a re-release of her debut cookbook ‘Zoe’s Ghana Kitchen’ on September 9th, 2020. The Ghanaian author talked about traditional Ghanaian recipes “remixed for the modern kitchen” in her cookbook.

*Simone Bridges — THE SCIENCE BEHIND IT

Celebrity Baker, Simone Bridges released her cookbook ‘The Science BEHIND IT’ to appreciate the work of STEM kids and basically inspire.
Simone shared her experience and how she was able to formulate success at an early age. ‘The science BEHIND IT’ cookbook was released on June 19th.
